A gathering of representatives from a broad range of trade unions and civil society organisations met on 12 June 2015 to discuss the challenges currently facing South Africa – the socioeconomic catastrophe of unemployment, poverty and inequality – and in particular the outrageous levels of corruption, as typified by the gross over-spending of public money on Nkandla.
The meeting agreed to organise a protest march on the Union Buildings to demand urgent government action to tackle the crisis faced in particular by the workers and the poor.
The media are invited to attend a press conference to hear more details of the planned protest march.
Among those present will be Zwelinzima Vavi and Irvin Jim, General Secretary of NUMSA, Oya Gumede of OUTA and Mark Heywood of Section 27.
