The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) refutes media reports that the Minister of Labour Ms Mildred Oliphant, has brokered a settlement deal between Numsa and employer bodies – Steel and Engineering Industry Federation of South Africa  and National Employers Association of South Africa  –  to end the ongoing engineering/metals sector strike.
The reports are not only highly misleading, but are a reflection of gutter journalism, and sensational reporting to capture headlines.
Furthermore, we view these reports as nothing, but an endeavor to sabotage or weaken the well organised and very strong strike by our members in the engineering/metals sector.
There is no deal or agreement that we are aware of. At the appropriate time Numsa shall publicly announce when such a deal is on the table, after consulting members first.
The strike continues indefinitely
