Seminar on 20 Years of Democracy and a launch of Professor Ben turok’s New Book: With my head above the Parapet: An insider account of the ANC in Power (2014)

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) will hold a one day seminar under the theme: 20 Years of Democracy: Is it yet Uhuru? – Workers’ narratives of life since 1994, this coming Saturday 26 April 2014, at 09h00am, Vincent Mabuyakhulu Conference Centre (VMCC), 155 Bree (Cnr Gerard Sekoto) Street, Newtown, Johannesburg, Gauteng province.
The seminar will be preceded by the launch of Professor Ben Turok’s latest book: With my Head above the Parapet: An Insider Account of the ANC in Power (2014). The seminar and book launch, coincides with the two decades since the Black majority exercised its right to vote in South Africa, and in doing so chose a government of their choice. Over the last few months different narratives have been given on how life has been in South Africa since 1994. Missing in these accounts of life under the new dispensation are workers’ voices.
The seminar/book launch will be addressed by Professor BEN TUROK; NUMSA President ANDREW CHIRWA; Wits Professor CHRIS MALIKANE and NUMSA Deputy General Secretary KARL CLOETE. These will be followed by an open mic where workers will describe how their lives have changed or not changed in the last 20 years.
