Cornelia Mahlaku Matsomane, the treasurer of the Hlanganani region, was born on April 28 1967 at Ga-Marishane in Limpopo.

She matriculated in 1989, studied for a BA degree through Unisa in 1999, as well as diplomas in employment process management in 2001, in customer service at Unisa in 2002, and in the new managers programme at Wits Business College in 2010.

She is currently studying for an honours degree through Unisa.

Elected a shop steward

She works as an administration cerk at Club Motors Fountains, where she joined Numsa in October 2003. She was elected a shop steward in September 2007.

Cornelia has also been elected to the school governing body at Walhamanstahl High School in Soshanguve, as a local gender secretary and dispute committee chairperson.
