A synopsis of organisational experience:

Served in the following organisations/institutions over the years;

• Chairperson of the Atlantis Christian Youth Association in 1981.
• Activist for South African Allied Workers Union (SAAWU) and Clothing Workers Union (CLOWU) in Atlantis during 1982 – 1984. Both unions became affiliates of the UDF.
• Shopsteward and Chairperson of the Chemical Industrial Workers Union (CIWU) at Gundle Plastics in 1985. CIWU at the time was an affiliate of FOSATU and with the unity talks became an affiliate of COSATU.
• Served as an REC member of CIWU.
• Member of the 1st UDF Steering Committee in Atlantis in 1984.
• Secretary of the Atlantis Residents Association (ARA) in 1985. ARA was an affiliate of CAHAC (Cape Housing Action Committee) and UDF.
• Shopsteward and Chairperson of the NUMSA FSSC at Grapnel Exhaust Manufacturing in 1987.
• Local Secretary, Vice chairperson and Chairperson of NUMSA Atlantis Local in the period 1988, 1989 & 1990.
• NUMSA Western Cape Regional Executive Committee (REC) member representing Atlantis local.
• With the unbanning of the ANC in 1990, I became Coordinator of the Atlantis ANC Leadership Core with the objective of establishing an ANC branch. When the ANC branch was launched, I became its 1st Branch Secretary.
• COSATU Atlantis Local Secretary.
• ANC Councillor on the Transitional Council in 1993
• Former Chairperson of Radio Atlantis
• Former executive member of the Atlantis RDP Forum
• Member of COSATU’s Regional Economic Development Working Group (REDWG) in 1992.
• Member of the COSATU Western Cape Regional Executive Committee (REC).
• Played a key role in the Motor strike in 1998.
• Member of the SACP Provincial Executive Committee and SACP PEC member on the Party Building Commission.
• Acting NUMSA Western Cape Regional Secretary in 2000 – 2001.
• National Project Coordinator of NUMSA’s Organizational Renewal Project One
• Former member of the Mafikeng NUMSA National Congress Resolutions Committee in 2000.
• Former NUMSA representative on the COSATU National Congress Resolutions Committee.
• Bargaining Team member in Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) negotiations until 2000.
• MERSETA Western Cape Regional Committee member.
• NUMSA National Task Team member in developing strategies for Labour’s intervention in MERSETA.
• SACP Western Cape Provincial Chairperson and delegate to the SACP Central Committee
