The National Office Bearers (NOBs) of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) will hold a bilateral meeting with the steel industry Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), tomorrow Tuesday 11 August 2015, amidst the crisis of massive jobs to be shed in the industry.
The bilateral will allow parties to develop a coherent and integrated response to the impending jobs bloodbath in the industry; discuss the factors behind the crisis and strategies to be explored in lobbying for necessary intervention by government to save this strategic sector of our economy from total collapse.
Already our economy is bleeding and thousands of jobs are being lost on daily basis, mostly squeezing the working class and the poor to shackles of desperation, amidst the crisis of poverty, unemployment and inequality.
The CEOs’ of Arcelor Mittal; Evraz Highveld Steel; Scaw Metals Group; Macsteel and SEIFSA will be part of this groundbreaking meeting. Our sister unions in the sector, namely Solidarity and UASA will be in attendance.
Members of the media are hereby invited to a photo-opportunity and brief interviews, tomorrow Tuesday 11 August 2015, at 13h15.
