NUMSA offices vandalised

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has reported a case of vandalism with the South African Police Services (SAPS).
Our Provincial Head Offices in the Western Cape were vandalized by a group of unknown elements. We have already opened a case with the SAPS on Monday 3 February 2014; hopefully police will move swiftly and arrest the suspects or perpetrators of this senseless vandalism of our property.
The alleged burglars or perpetrators tried unsuccessfully to set the office alight; and a number of cell phones and spare keys were stolen.
The union has taken extra-ordinary measures to make sure that our offices are safe for our support staff and elected leadership. This latest vandalism of our Western Cape offices follows a long list of similar acts of burglary and vandalism that have occurred at our Head Offices last year.
In all these reported cases, we have not had a single feedback from the police.
We hope that the police will not only act speedily in apprehending the responsible culprits, but they will do so as part of renewing our public confidence in the police that they can do their work without fear or favour.
Any failure by the police to approaching this latest incident with an eagle eye or vigilant investigation will reinforce our suspicion that the police are neglecting our cases for narrow political expediency.
