NUMSA National Bargaining Conference

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) will be holding a National Bargaining Conference (NBC) from 16 April –ending- 19 April 2013, at the St Georges Hotel and Conference Centre, City of Tshwane, Gauteng province.

The NBC will be attended by close to 450 worker-leaders representing a combined membership of 312 000, and it will be held under the strategic theme “Redistribution of Wealth Now as Demanded by Freedom Charter! Motsotso wa Numsa!!”.

The NBC will be taking place against the backdrop of an ongoing ideological offensive against labour rights by apartheid beneficiary and apologist Herman Mashaba who leads the Free Market Foundation, the reactionary and neoliberal labour reform proposals contained in the National Development Plan (NDP) and ongoing class struggle for a Living Wage by workers in a modern day and capitalist South Africa.

The main objectives of the NBC will be to consolidate workers’ collective bargaining demands in the strategic sectors where the union organizes, such as auto assembly, motor retail sector, rubber and trye, house agreements and Eskom.

As customary the NBC will be officially opened by Numsa President CEDRIC GINA, and it will also be addressed by Numsa General Secretary IRVIN JIM and COSATU General Secretary ZWELINZIMA VAVI. Fraternal organizations have also been invited and they will be in attendance, namely ANC, SACP, SANCO and the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA).

Members of the media are welcome to attend all the Open/Plenary Sessions, not the Closed Commissions. For purposes of smooth operations and logistical arrangements we are asking you to apply in advance.
