SRWP WELCOMES DECISION OF IEC TO REGISTER THE PARTY

The Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party (SRWP) notes that the IEC has confirmed our registration for the elections. We welcome this development. In July the IEC rejected our application on the basis that the colour and logo of the party was similar to that of other parties and this might be confusing for the electorate. We appealed this decision and we have now been informed that our appeal was successful and the political party has been registered.

The SRWP is a revolutionary party which will drive a Socialist programme for the formation of a Socialist South Africa. Our formation is a result of the historic decision taken by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) Special National Congress in 2013 to establish the formation of a Workers Party to champion an agenda for the working class, a social grouping of people who are employed for wages, especially in manual or industrial work. We are a Marxist-Leninist political party fighting to overthrow the brutal Capitalist system.

We believe that that working class majority will never be prosperous, equal or free until all the land, all our natural resources and all the human talent and labour are used to benefit the working class majority. South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world where the elite 1% own all the wealth and the means of production, even after Apartheid. The sad reality is that the economic policies which the ANC government has been driving, have meant that the majority of people still live in extreme poverty and inequality, just as it was under Apartheid.

The root of mass poverty, unemployment and extreme inequality is the racist South African colonialist, capitalist system which has been aided by the global capitalist system, in ensuring that the working class majority remains massively underdeveloped and our people materially and culturally poor.

The only way to change that is for the Working class majority to cease power and drive an agenda in their interests and for their benefit. We believe that all the wealth, the country’s natural resources, the land and all the wealth belong to us and not to local and foreign capitalists. We want to create an economy which benefits all South Africans, and not just the wealthy billionaires who grow rich at our expense.

We have spent the last few months travelling all over the country, setting up branches and units in different regions. Our focus has been on political education and on uniting the working class because we want a politically conscious working class which can cease power and drive an agenda in its own interests.

The working class is the only force with the power to transform society. It was a united working class which defeated Apartheid, it will require the power of the working class again to defeat the system of Capitalism!

Issued by the SRWP.
