NUMSA KZN REJECTS APPOINTMENT OF TITO MBOWENI TO POSITION OF FINANCE MINISTER

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) in KwaZulu-Natal rejects the appointment of neo-liberal hack Tito Mboweni, as the new Finance Minister, as announced by billionaire President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mboweni takes over the reins after the resignation of disgraced former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene. His appointment to this strategic portfolio represents the consolidation of the neoliberal accumulation agenda and retention of the status quo. This should serve as a wake-up call to the working class and the poor, that the “New Dawn” is not about championing a revolutionary agenda that transfers the wealth of our country to the people as a whole, informed by the 1955 Freedom Charter and the aborted Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP), which was displaced by the now infamous Growth, Employment and Redistribution (GEAR) strategy in 1996, that was imposed on the country Mbeki’s administration.

It is clear that the fast fading ANC is not only short of capable Cadres to advance a revolutionary agenda, but it has ran outside of revolutionary ideas, to act in the interests of the working class; rural poor; disenfranchised youth and marginalized urban poor. The #ThumaMina mantra is an ideological fog to send the working class into slumber, whilst White Monopoly Capital remains firmly in charge of the economy and policy formulation.

The working class, particularly organized workers have no reasons to celebrate or ululate Mboweni’s new deployment, because it suffered his wrath when he was still in charge of the Reserve Bank, as a Governor. His presence in public office signals the “re-incarnation” of the 1996 class project, which is anti-working class, and hell-bent on pleasing the markets and Ratings Agencies, whilst the working class majority are ravaged by squalor; living in poverty; subjected slavery wages; and remain landless.

NUMSA, as a critical voice of the working class, will continue to keep the working class mobilized around an agenda for the full and radical implementation of the Freedom Charter, especially its key economic demands. This calls on the working class, especially workers, irrespective of their t-shirt colors or trade union logo’s, to remain combat ready to swamp the streets, as a class for itself, and shape its own destiny outside the Gupta-like captured ANC-headed Alliance.

Aluta continua!

The struggle continues!
