The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) notes with serious concern the burning down of 21 buses, a satellite police station, municipal office and a library that was partly damaged at Marapong Township, outside Lephalele, Limpopo.
The union has dispatched its senior officials to garner and solicit enough information on the circumstances that has led to these unfortunate events.
Numsa remains a non-violent, revolutionary and responsible union, and it has never used violent methods to address any industrial disputes.
Now is not the time to point fingers or apportioning blame to the union, since no credible evidence exists suggesting that our members are indeed responsible.
