Civil Society Conference on the Electricity Crisis

DAPHNE MOKWENA, Eskom’s Operations and Maintenance Manager and a representative from the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), will address the Civil Society Conference on the Electricity Crisis, tomorrow 03 June 2015, at 10h00am, Booysens Hotel and Conference Centre, 33 Booysens Rd, Johannesburg.
Mokwena’s input will focus on “what the utility plans to do to avert the electricity crisis” and proposals coming out of the War Room, established under Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office as a leader of Government Business.
The Conference started earlier this morning and it been attended by energy-sector unions; community organisations and business representatives. The Conference was officially opened by Numsa Deputy General Secretary Karl Cloete, Solidarity’s Chief Executive Dirk Hermman and UASA’s Brian Muir.
The broad thrust of the Conference is to develop a coherent civil society voice and develop a common response on the crisis of electricity in the country. The outcomes of the Conference will be shared with government, including rolling-out a number of campaigns from below.
