The National Office Bearers (NOBs’) of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) have learnt with profound sadness and extreme shock of the tragic death of comrade Dumisa Ntuli, a former Numsa official and National Spokesperson.
Comrade Ntuli died in a tragic car accident on Sunday 08 February 2015, at the crack of dawn, near his home in Ekurhuleni. He was ANC’s Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson.
Even though his trade union, Numsa, took a ground breaking resolutions, at its Special National Congress in December 2013, to break ranks with the fading ANC-led Alliance, as a result of the neoliberal agenda that it continues to champion post-1994 negotiated settlement. He never used megaphones to cast aspersions against the democratically-elected Numsa leadership or poisonously undermine the political and ideological correctness of the Numsa resolutions, as correctly resolved by Numsa members.
Comrade Ntuli will forever occupy a special place in the hearts and minds of Metalworkers, for his sterling role in building Numsa as a formidable force. We find solace in that as he departs from our midst, he will join his brother, a former Numsa official comrade Sam Ntuli, who was assassinated 24 years ago, during the height of political violence between Inkatha and ANC, in East Rand.
We lower our red and revolutionary banners in honour of this great servant of Metalworkers and an offspring of the working class. Ntuli was one of the most revered communicators to be produced from the ranks of the trade union movement. He was part of a generation of SASCO activists that swell the ranks of the trade union movements; and strengthen its organisational capacity to fight for workers’ demands and aspirations.
Cde Ntuli, nature had endowed him with considerable talent as an agitator for the working class as its indispensable voice.
We extend our warmest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and comrades, as a whole.
