The members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) who are exploited and under-paid in the Engineering/Metals sector will be marching to the offices of the Metal and Engineering Industry Bargaining Council (MEIBC) tomorrow Thursday 03 July 2014, Welkom, Free State province.
The march will be led by Numsa’s 1st Deputy President cde CHRISTINE OLIVIER and a Memorandum of Demands will be handed-over to the representatives of Steel and Engineering Federation of SA (SEIFSA) and National Employers Association of SA (NEASA). We are expecting 4000 Numsa members to converge at Mannys Taxi Rank, Welkom, and they will march peacefully to the offices of the MEIBC, where a Memorandum will be delivered.
This march follows on the footsteps of similar successful marches that took place yesterday (Tuesday) in various parts of the country, namely Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town. We remain resolute that the Bosses have no options, but to concede to our genuine demands.
Our members are firm and clear that the days of racialised poverty wages, amidst the ideological fog of a “good story to tell”, by politicians, has no place in modern day South Africa, and they want a Living Wage.
