Dr Ngubekhaya Gobingca, earlier today, Friday June 28, 2013, walked-out of his self-imposed and impromptu Annual General Meeting (AGM), in one of the affluent hotels around Johannesburg, Gauteng province.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) had in a principled and genuine manner, publicly called for the suspension of Dr Gobingca, amidst serious allegations of maladministration and transgressions.
Furthermore, we had remained opposed to the sitting of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), since the curator Dr Gobingca, had not only over-stepped his powers, but bullied everyone to convene with the blessings and approval of the owners of the scheme – the workers, as legitimately represented by the Trustees.
“Firstly we want to reject any insinuations and venomous accusations that we are targeting Dr Gobingca, because we have (as a union) benefited generously through corruptible means from the out-gone management of the Scheme. If truth be told, the out-gone leadership of the Scheme was exposed by Numsa for corruption. If Numsa is corrupt, people are free to go to their nearest Police Station and open a case of fraud and corruption”, says Numsa National Treasurer Mphumzi Maqungo
“The issue right now, is that the well-known arrogant curator decided to walk-out amidst this cloud of corruption and transgressions over his head. We hope his walk-out in today’s AGM will be permanent; he just needs to pack his bags and go for good. His bullying and leadership style stinks and it shall not be tolerated by us”, says Maqungo
The union will be seeking a legal opinion pertaining to the walk-out by the curator, and subsequently the status of the AGM, since the curator decided to run-away from his responsibility to account to owners of the scheme. We want to state clearly that Dr Gobingca was not intimidated or threatened during the proceedings of the AGM. We reiterate our call for his immediate suspension by the Registrar of Council of Medical Schemes.
