Numsa: Eskom tariffs increase to affect poor

FINAL REMINDER: NUMSA NATIONAL TREASURER MPHUMZI MAQUNGO WILL BE MAKING A SUBMISSION TO NERSA ON BEHALF OF METALWORKERS IN RELATION TO ESKOM’S APPLICATION FOR INCREASED ELECTRICITY TARIFFS

MPHUMZI MAQUNGO, National Treasurer of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) will be representing Metalworkers at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) public hearing on ESKOM’s application for the Third Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD3), scheduled for TODAY Tuesday 5 February 2013, at the East Cape Training Centre, Spondo Street, Zwide, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape province.

The hearing will start at 11h00am.

This hearing is being re-convened after popular resistance from unions and communities for these hearings to be taken to working class and poor areas, who will be mostly affected by ridiculous tariffs as a result of massive retrenchments in factories, escalation of food prices and skyrocketing cost of living, amidst the socio-economic hardships already faced by the working class as a result of the triple crisis of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

Members of Numsa will be picketing outside the East Cape Training Centre, Spondo Street, Zwide, where Nersa will be holding this public hearing.
Members of the media are hereby invited to attend and report.
