Numsa youth Forums march against youth unemployment
By Vusi Thyalwa
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa’s Youth Forum embarked on a protest action on the 27 October 2012.
The protest march was to show the union’s opposition to the refusal of employers to stop the use of Labour Brokers in our Industry / Sectors and the refusal by government to ban labour brokers.
Numsa-YF Gauteng regions participated in the march.
The fight for decent work for all was joined by Gauteng regions and led by Numsa president Cedric Gina and Numsa national treasurer Mphumzi Maqungo.
Memorandums of demands were handed to the department of Labour, SEFSA and Gauteng provincial offices.
The demands included the reinforcement of all miners that were dismissed by mine bosses on while striking for a decent salary.
Numsa-YF appreciate the turn-out of the young metal workers to support the march, to some it was short notice and indeed the mobilisation for the march was not proper however at least +/- 1000 workers participated in the march .
We would like to thank all the PYA structures that supported our march. NUMSA-YF national committee took a decision that Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Kwazulu-Natal and Western Cape regions to have their march on the 8th of December 2012.
