Johannesburg North local secretary City Bokaba proposed to the JC Bez Regional congress that our former regional treasurer, Rosa Mkhize, should be honoured for her major contribution to our organisation.
She has been a shop steward for 24 years, uncontested at plant level, and the first regional treasurer till she decided to vacate the position.
Mom Rosa has served in many structures, including Numsa’s National Investment Committee and National Finance Committee, representing the union as an employee representative on the board of trustees of the Numsa staff provident fund.
Mom Rosa, from the West Rand Local, had a long and hectic 2011, facing health and other challenges. All six JC Bez six locals wish her best of health, success and an abundance of peace in her life.
She took the decision to let young metalworkers oversee the finances and committees of the region, and did not stand for the position again.
She bid farewell to her comrades with tears rolling down her face, hugging and shaking hands with national and regional leaders .
She will be recorded in the book of those who have contributed to Numsa over the years. Said Irvin Jim: “She is one of the very few who have taken a conscious decision to live for a particular organisation, serving the workers and not looking after her material interests.
Rosa Mkhize is a credit to the ANC, Cosatu and Numsa, and she has been loyal and consistent in championing the cause of metalworkers.
She still wants to perform duties for the organisation and will be opening doors everywhere, including those of the government and Cosatu, so that she continues to serve the workers.
