Condolences to SACP Central Committee Member Comrade Thulas Nxesi’s family

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is saddened by reports on the untimely departure of SACP Central Committee (CC) Member and Minister of Public Works Thulas Nxesi’s daughter Lona Nxesi.

Lona dies at a very young age, she was amongst few and rare breed of young activists needed to confront the triple crisis of poverty, unemployment and inequalities as faced by the greatest majority of young South African working class youth.

Her unfortunate departure robs the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) one of the most revered and brilliant young minds ever produced by the family of activists drawn from the ranks of the working class, particularly the trade union movement.

Lona’s death calls on the working class and the poor youth to play a revolutionary and leading role in agitating for reliable, safe and affordable public transport, including safer public roads for both pedestrians and road users.

We extend our warmest condolences to the family, friends, relatives and her school peers.

As one popular Nguni idiom says, “Isitsh’esihle asidleli”
