Funeral arrangements of the late Numsa leader cde Thembeka Twani.

ARRANGEMENTS for the mass funeral of Comrade Thembeka Twani are falling into place.

The Funeral will take place at Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sport Centre in Motherwell, and move to the Motherwell Cemetry in Motherwell, where Twani will finally be laid to rest at around 13h00pm.

Twani died at the age of 42 on Wednesday 28 March 2012, in her hospital bed, Livingston Hospital, Port Elizabeth, after a short illness.

Her death has been greeted with shock by people from around the country and the world, particularly from her friends and comrades in NUMSA.

On Saturday 7 April 2012, a family valedictory service will be held at Twani’s home in NU2, Vinjiwe Street, Motherwell between 7am and 8am.

The main public funeral service will be held from 9am at the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sport Centre in Motherwell, starting with Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika and a revolutionary salute by NUMSA.

NUMSA National Treasurer Cde PHILEMON SHIBURI will deliver a tribute on behalf of the National Office Bearers (NOB) of NUMSA, and Comrade BASIL CELE, NUMSA KwaZulu Regional Chairperson and COSATU Provincial Chairperson will pay homage to this gallant daughter of the working class on behalf of the Motor Bargaining Council, followed by a sermon by a pastor from her family church.

Before the end of the church service there’ll be another salute by NUMSA.

Former trade unionists, NUMSA leaders, members of NUMSA and other COSATU affiliated unions will attend this funeral service.

Up to 5000 people are expected at the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sport Centre, and metro police, the SAPS will be on duty to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Family members and close associates will then leave the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sport Centre at around 12 and proceed to the Motherwell Cemetry in Motherwell.

Twani immortal remains will be laid to rest alongside other great heroes and stalwarts of the movement long departed from our midst.
