NUMSA INCENSED BY RACIST RANTS METTED AGAINST FOUR YOUNG WORKERS IN WESTERN CAPE

13 April 2011

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) Youth Desk is incensed by the degradation of four young workers by the racist and barbaric employer at AC Wendy carpentry in Blackheath in Cape Town.

This dehumanising act took place on Tuesday 5th April 2011, evening, after the four young workers, aged between 20 and 26, went to the factory to look for casual work. They were offered a day's employment and worked without a break from 7am to 11pm.

When they asked to be paid, the bosses’ response was first to beat them up and then held them at gunpoint and forced them to suck their private parts. They were then forced to drink water mixed with urine from toilet bowls. Under the new Sexual Offences Act, forcing someone to perform oral sex is considered to be rape.

The four young workers were subjected into racist slurs and the racist employer named them ‘Vavi’, ‘Blade’ and ‘Malema’ and demanded why the CEO of Racist South Africa Eugene Terre’Blanche was killed.

We call on the National Prosecuting Authority and the Human Rights Commission to make sure that this racist employer receives harsh sentence for this monstrous and evil act against the four young workers. The harsh sentence should send a strong message to other racist that such acts will not be tolerated in a democratic South Africa under the rule of the ANC.

The NUMSA Youth Desk is of the view that the workers at this establishment must be mobilized to take over control of this factory for the benefit and the interest of themselves and the workers who have been violated by this employer. NO BAIL!

We are concerned by the loud silence of Democratic Alliance (DA) and Western Cape provincial government on this barbaric act meted against the four workers. This is a clear indication that the DA and Western Cape provincial government are tolerant of such acts of racist rants and slur against our poor people.

This should be a wake-up call to the African and Coloured working class in the Western Cape that the DA and Helen Zille’s provincial government are calling for ‘inflexible’ labour laws in order for our people to be subjected to racist stunts by the employers at the point of production.

We call on the Western Cape people to use their power by voting the DA out of power in the forthcoming local government elections and confirm the ANC as the real non racial, non sexist and democratic organisation that can rid the province of racism, super-exploitation, assaults and degradation from a tiny racist minority.
