What delegates said of the Cosatu congressLucky Malele is a shop steward from Numsa’s Wits Central West region.

He believes that in an organisation, organisational resolutions are the key focus. He is disappointed that for three days, congress dealt with only political resolutions.Doris Nqetho

Mandlenkosi J Mhlongo is a shop steward at Dendustry in KZN. “I’ve learnt how to debate issues,” he says. “I appreciate that after debate, we come up with one position. Speeches were good and the president of the country listens to what workers say.”Doris Nqetho

Samwu shop steward Amelia Khasiphe has been a shop steward of Samwu for nine years and is also chairperson of gender structures.

This is her second attendance at a Cosatu national congress. She is moved by robust debates and the resolutions that are taken by affiliates but never implemented.In this current congress Amelia raises a concern about delegates that are always outside the congress and not following proceedings.

She questions their commitment and wonders how they are going to report back to their constituencies.Mirriam Makhalemele.
