I have joined Numsa. Do I get a funeral benefit?As soon as you join Numsa and are paying union subscriptions to Numsa of 1% of your basic wage (excluding overtime) you belong to the Numsa funeral scheme administered by Doves.
What benefit does Numsa provide on the death of the Numsa member or of his/her immediate family?When you sign up as a Numsa member, you and your family members (you and your spouse and your children under the age of 21 or 25 if they are still studying) are all covered by Doves funeral policy.
Doves will provide the following:* a coffin* a hearse * a tent and chairs at the grave sideDoves will also arrange the death certificate and will remove the body to a Doves funeral parlour.
I have two wives. Is my second wife covered?No. If you want your second wife to be covered you must take out Top Up funeral cover. This will cost you R11,50 per month. You must pay this money to Doves.
I have three children from my first wife and two children from my second wife. Are they covered if they die?Yes they are covered as long as they are younger than 21 (or 25 if they are still studying). If you have legally adopted children they will also be covered.
I have a mother who has no funeral policy. How do I get her covered by Doves funeral policy?You can also pay a Top Up funeral cover for her (or your father) or your in-laws.

I am a Numsa member and a single adult male supporting my mother. If my mother dies will Doves cover her death?No, you must pay Top Up funeral cover (described above).
But if you die, Doves will cover your funeral and if you list your mother as your family member then she will get the funeral benefit for your funeral.
What happens if I don't want the funeral benefit but I want to take cash instead?You can take cash instead of the funeral benefit. But you will only get paid out R2000 for your death or your spouse's death. You will get R500 for each of your children's death.
I live in Lesotho. Does the funeral scheme cover me and my family in Lesotho?If you or one of your family members die you will not be able to get the funeral benefit because Doves does not operate in Lesotho. But you can claim the cash benefit instead (see above).
If there is death in the family what do I do?Phone the Doves call centre immediately 0860112288.Have your ID number ready.
If I am retrenched from my job can I stay on as a member of the Numsa funeral scheme?Yes, as long as you have been a member of Numsa for more than two years.
But you must first apply for Numsa continuation membership at your nearest Numsa office. If you are accepted as a continuation member, you will then have to pay R5,60 per month to Numsa to belong to the Doves funeral scheme. Or you can pay for the whole year in advance.
