The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) wishes to correct the press statement issued on the 2nd of October 2024 wherein it makes reference to “VR Steel”. This was an error in communicating the name of the employer prior to the press release and should have read “Veer Steel”.
The statement was intended to welcome and applaud the intervention by the Department of Employment and Labour for conducting raids on Tradecor and other steel companies in Ekurhuleni, for flouting labour regulations.
In the statement we said, “We want to highlight the company VR Steel” whereas it should have read “We want to highlight the company Veer Steel” as one of the companies that we wanted the department to look into.
NUMSA maintains that Veer Steel is a company which it demands the Department of Employment pay particular attention to and require it to comply with the labour legislation.
Insofar as the previous most may have caused any inconvenience to VR Steel as a result of the error. NUMSA has corrected this error through this correspondence and withdraws the reference made to VR Steel.
