United Front and broader civil society to picket outside hearings on Eskom’s application for tariff hikes

The United Front, energy unions such as the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the broad Electricity Crisis Campaign (ECC) will tomorrow Tuesday 23 June 2015 hold a picket against Eskom’s application for an electricity tariff increase that will result in a total price increase of 25.30% for 2015/16.
Tomorrow will be the first day of the two-day public hearings that the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) will hold to hear Eskom ‘s selective re-opener of the third Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD3).
Numerous organisations that will be in the picket have made submissions that oppose the application. Whilst picketing outside, their representatives will make submissions on the disastrous implications if Nersa acceds to Eskom’s application.
