Media invitation to the alternative State of the Nation address (SoNA) – Wednesday 11 February 2015 – Townhouse Hotel – Cape Town

United Front’s national secretary Mazibuko Jara, joined by National Working Committee (NWC) members ZACKIE ACHMAT; BRIAN ASHLEY; and Numsa’s Deputy General Secretary KARL CLOETE, will present an Alternative State of the Nation Address (SoNA), on Wednesday 11 February 2015, Townhouse Hotel, 60 Corporation Street, Cape Town, Western Cape province.
The Alternative State of the Nation Address (SoNA) will serve as a platform for critical voices from communities to outline their expectations ahead of President Jacob Zuma’s SoNA.
The Alternative SoNA will probe the underlying causes of the ugly xenophobic attacks and looting of spaza shops owned by our class brothers from outside the country; the ongoing service protests in Malamulele, Mohlakeng, Madibeng and elsewhere; and the growing inequality in the country.
The alternative SoNA will be used also as a basis for assessing the country’s political leadership; a critical response to the inadequacies of the ANC’s January 8th statement and last week’s statement of the ANC national lekgotla. United Front speakers will also present alternative proposals on key issues – unemployment, the electricity crisis, the paralysis affecting the entire criminal justice system and the generalised paralysis of major public institutions.
