The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) on behalf of its 320000 members pledges its unwavering support and unflinching solidarity with the striking SA Breweries workers led by our trusted ally, militant, fighting and class orientated Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU).
NUMSA calls on the SA Breweries stinking rich ruling oligarchy to concede to the legitimate and genuine demands of workers. The failure by SA Breweries to concede to these demands of workers, we will be forced to call on the South African Liquor Traders Association (SALTA), which represents the majority of Taverns and Bottle stores owners, mainly in working class communities to withdraw their buying power, until the demands of SA Breweries are fully met.
We strongly believe that the demands of the workers are reasonable and can be met by the SA Breweries bosses. The SA Breweries workers deserve an equal share of the massive wealth that the SA Breweries are generating from their sweat.
We call on the striking workers to remain firm and resolute in their struggle for a living wage and improved conditions of employment. The Numsa NOBs will soon convene a special meeting with the NOBs of FAWU, in order to discuss practical solidarity actions by Metalworkers in support of this struggle by workers.
