Numsa Congratulates the Newly-Elected Leadership Of National Union Of Mineworkers (NUM)

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), the reliable and trusted ally of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), congratulates its newly-elected National Office Bearers (NOB’s) led by President Senzeni Zokwana and General Secretary Frans Baleni.

The NUM continues to be the bedrock of the ideological, revolutionary and class orientated trade union movement in South Africa as led by the Congress of South Africa Trade Unions (COSATU).

The newly-elected leadership has a mammoth task of forging maximum unity within COSATU and the whole liberation movement as led by the African National Congress (ANC).

We are happy that the 14TH National Congress afforded the NUM an opportunity to reflect on the current and pressing challenges faced by the workers and the poor of our country at the point of production and society broadly.

We believe that the leadership has renewed its mandate to confront the battles that lie ahead in the interest of the workers and the poor.

We are particularly pleased that the 14TH National Congress took a resolution for the NUM to renew its historical ties to join the class conscious and socialist orientated global federation of workers, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU).

This historic resolution lays a solid foundation for COSATU and other affiliates to join the WFTU amidst the deepening crisis of Capitalism in Europe, Greece and United States (US).
