On the Shopfloor: Split vote at Continental

Numsa members at Continental Tyres in Port Elizabeth voted overwhelmingly against a management proposal that would have the payment for overtime on Saturdays and Sundays reduced in an attempt to avoid retrenchments.

However, rival union, Solidarity voted in favour of mangement’s proposal. Now Solidarity has asked that its members be excluded when management chooses retrenchees since it voted in favour of the proposal.

Tough negotiations are continuing.
