Rates: Numsa signs engineering agreement

Agreement to run from July 8 2005 – June 30 2007

On June 27, Numsa members warmed themselves up at Cosatu’s jobs march in preparation for a bigger march to Seifsa set for July 12. (see pics page 3)

However when Numsa’s national executive committee met on July 8, employers had raised their wage offer to 6,8% for the lowest paid.

“We called off the strike because the margin between what the employers offered and the union demand was minimal,” says Numsa information officer, Dumisa Ntuli.

Workers whose employers belong to employer bodies Seifsa, Neasa, Feosa and Caesar will receive the new wage increases from the week ending July 1. Workers whose employers do not belong to these employer organizations must wait until the government gazettes the agreement. The agreement will expire on June 30 2007 .

“Sasichitha isiteleka ngoba wawumncane kakhulu umehluko phakathi kwalokhu abaqashi ababesinike khona nalokhu okwakufunwa inyunyana,” kusho uDumisa Ntuli isisebenzi sezokwazisa kuNumsa .

Abasebenzi abangaphansi kwabaqashi abangaphansi kwezinhlangano zabaqashi i-Seifsa, i-Neasa, i-Feosa ne-Caesar bazothola amaholo abo amasha akhushuliwe ngomhla ka-1 Julayi. Abasebenzi abasebenza kubaqashi abangekho ngaphansi kwalezi zinhlangano zabaqashi kufanele balinde uhulumeni aze asifake kugazethi isivumelwano. Isivumelwano siyophelelwa yisikhathi ngomhla ka-30 Juni 2007.

Numsa onderteken ooreenkoms in dieingenieursektor

Numsa-lede het hulleself op 27 Junie by Cosatu se betogings oor werk opgewarm vir “˜n groter optog na Seifa, wat op 12 Julie sou plaasvind.

Toe Numsa se nasionale uitvoerende komitee op 8 Julie bymekaargekom het, het die werkgewer sy loonaanbod verhoog na 6,8% vir die laagste betaalde werkers.

“Ons het die staking gekanselleer omdat die verskil tussen wat die werkgewer aangebied het en wat die unie geí«is het, minimaal was,” síª Numsa se inligtingsbeampte, Dumisa Ntuli.

Werkers wie se werkgewers aan werkgewersorganisasies soos Seifsa, Neasa, Feosa en Caesar behoort, sal die nuwe loonverhogings vanaf 1 Julie ontvang. Werkers wie se werkgewers nie aan hierdie organisasies behoort nie, moet wag totdat die regering hierdie ooreenkoms in die Staatskoerant publiseer. Die ooreenkoms verval op 30 Junie 2007.
