Madibeng Local proved its dedication to international childcare day again when it organised for 111 children and 35 adults to celebrate the event at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg.
Madibeng Local administrator, Refilwe Betty Lukhele reports. The children and their parents were impressed – they really enjoyed the event.
And the weather was in our favour – it was not as cold as we thought it would be.We requested donations from companies and that was not an easy task. It meant making sure that we – myself and shop stewards – did not relax after sending faxes.
We had to make follow ups with their employers, some responded positively, others did not.All in all we managed to raise more than R10 000 this year as well as two free buses.
And because last year we did not reach our budget, we put last year's fundraising monies into the bank and used it for our outing this year. Together these amounts came to more than R21 000. But this childcare day must not just be seen as an outing.
It is a reminder to us that parental rights should also be implemented in the companies. And that is why the issue of childcare facilities is still in the pipeline.
