Re-affirming the " Alliance " has become a ritual in union congresses. A few times during NBC debates, calls to "re-affirm/reinstate the alliance" were made from the conference floor.

This will clearly be disturbing to union members who were not aware that the issue of the " Alliance " was on the NBC's agenda. Where did they get the mandate to discuss the Alliance ? Relax comrades!

The alliance that kept being "re-affirmed/ reinstated" from the conference floor didn't start with a capital – "A". It's a new alliance called the "coastal alliance (CA)" forged after the Eastern and Western Cape delegations started agreeing on a few issues.

Whether the Eastern Cape considers the new alliance as revolutionary, is something to be seen in future meetings. But judging from Wits Central delegates' faces, there will clearly be calls for the breaking of the CA. Already murmurs could be heard that the CA was a "convenient alliance".
