Bargaining: Today’s bargaining demands are tomorrow’s benefits

"The development of a bargaining strategy lies solely with Numsa and its members," Silumko Nondwangu, Numsa's general secretary told Numsa's sector co-ordinators and regional representatives at a workshop to prepare for this year's bargaining round.

Numsa is a union that "is not fixated to narrow bargaining issues," he told delegates. He pleaded with participants to remember famous revolutionary, Amilcar Cabral's words when he said: "people are not fighting for ideas or for the things in anyone's head. They are fighting to win material benefits, to live better and in peace, to see their lives go forward, to guarantee the future of their children ……'
